Bradley Preston Burg, 76, passed away unexpectedly at home in Mill Spring, North Carolina, on Nov. 16, 2023.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1947, in Burlington. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and uncle.
Brad graduated from Burlington High School in 1965. He subsequently served his country in Vietnam, graduated from the University of Iowa and earned his master’s degree from Clemson University.
Together with his lifelong love, Trudy, Brad raised his family in the Charleston, South Carolina, area.
He worked for the Veterans Administration and as a civilian employee for the Navy. Following their carefully-planned early retirement, Brad and Trudy moved to their dream home in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Around the same time, they began making annual visits to Burlington for quality time with family, friends, and Hawkeye football.
Bradley is survived by Trudy; his son, Brandon (Cynthia); his daughter, Ashley Burg Owens (Carl); his grandsons, Steven, Drake, and Austin; and his granddaughters, Raina and Ellington.
He is also survived by his sisters, Pamela Lollis and Paula Burg; along with several nieces and nephews.
Brad was predeceased by his father, John Emil Burg, and his mother, Evelyn Renee Burg.
Services to celebrate Brad’s life will be held at a later date.
In the meantime, his family welcomes donations to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in his memory.
